I'm excited to offer a horticulturally produced "porcelain" type ventricosa. Possibly the first in the United States!

This form of ventricosa is markedly different from the standard red form. While common red ventricosas are quick growing and easy plants, tolerant of a variety of temperatures, the porcelain type is obstinantly slow growing and difficult to reproduce. Many of the best clones, such as the Longwood Garden Clone, are sterile and even the ones that are fertile seem to produce only a limited amount of viable seed. The seedlings produced are very slow, having taken three years to reach a size suitable for shipping.

However, these plants are certainly worth the effort! They produce stunning, large and woody pitchers that last for months or even years. The contrast between the pale pitcher body and the deep maroon lips is incredible.

The mother used in this cross is ventricosa (C) from Exotica Plants. The male is a seed grown ventricosa known as 'Porcelain Giant'. It produces massive pitchers that are almost twice as large as ventricosa (C). The offspring are already showing a fair amount of interesting variability and are sure to be stunning when fully grown.

Very few available at this time.
